Its lower half is constructed from durable stone masonry, while the upper portion is made of cast iron, forming a cylindrical tower painted white, topped with a red lantern roof.

Rising to a height of 21 meters (69 feet), its focal height, the height of the light above sea level, is approximately 21 meters, giving it impressive visibility. The beacon emits alternating white and red flashes every 9 seconds, guiding vessels safely into Kingston’s complex harbour channels.
